E-Book Tutorial

How to get e-books from Herrick Memorial Library.

Did you know you can download e-books and audiobooks with your library card? If you have a library card with a valid password or pin (i.e. if you are able to log in to your library account on our website with your existing card) then you can use that card to access our downloadable media. Whenever entering your card number online make sure you do not add any spaces that may be shown between the numbers printed on the back of your library card, enter the numbers (34010…) as one continuous number sequence.

If you don’t have a library card, or if you have one but never setup a password/pin, you can get a free digital card which can be used to download media.

You can download materials to a PC, tablet, or smartphone with the Libby app (or with Amazon Kindle devices or the Kindle App), or you can simply read materials in your browser.

If you need a digital card, you will need to provide the following information:

                        Address

                        Phone number

                        E-mail address

Downloading materials with the Libby App.

            What you need:

You need a device like a smartphone or a tablet with the Libby App. Or you can read materials directly in your internet browser. You must be online while reading materials in your browser, they are not downloaded.

                        Get the app at: https://www.overdrive.com/apps/libby/?utm_medium=overdrive_site&utm_source=banner+&utm_campaign=libby+&utm_content=od_libby_banner_meetlibby

Or search for “Libby, by OverDrive” in the app store on your device.

Or to read in your browser without the app, open your browser and go to: https://libbyapp.com to simply read materials in your browser. Make sure you choose Herrick Memorial Library as your library, and provide your card number and password when adding a card.

What to do after you install the app:

Open the app and follow the instructions. During the setup you will need to choose Herrick Memorial Library as your library, and enter your library card number and password/pin when prompted.

You can then search for and download and read materials all from within the Libby App.

Downloading Materials for Kindle Users.

If you have a Kindle device or the Kindle App, you do not need Libby. You can use a browser to find materials to download, and then use Amazon.com to add them to your Kindle device or app.

            What you need:

Either a Kindle Device (like the Paperwhite, Fire, etc.)

Or the Kindle app installed on a PC or phone or tablet.

Find links to the Kindle app at: https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=kindle+app

Or find it in the app store on your device.

You will also need the log in credentials for the Amazon.com account to which your device or app is registered.
